His Mercies Are New Every Morning

His Mercies Are New Every Morning

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22–23, ESV

“Oh no… not again!” I whispered to myself, feeling the sting of guilt. I had just yelled at my daughter because she wouldn’t get ready for bed. I desperately wanted to be a kinder, more loving mom. But no matter how often I asked my children nicely to do something, I always ended up losing my temper. Despite the countless times I’d asked God to forgive me, I always ended up letting Him down.

Maybe you’ve been there too.

Friend, we are not alone. Everyone struggles to overcome sin. The flesh wants what it wants, often in direct opposition to what our hearts desire. Even Paul struggled with this: “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing” (Romans 7:19, NIV).

His Mercies Are New Every Morning

Yet here is the hope we can hold onto: God’s mercies are new every morning. Every day, God offers forgiveness, grace, and a fresh start. No failure is too great to keep Him from loving us.

In the meantime, we can seek help, wisdom, and strength from God’s Holy Spirit, which dwells within us. As Paul reminds us: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16, NIV). When we rely on the Spirit, we can grow in love, patience, and kindness—step by step, day by day.

Friend, if you are like me, you want Jesus to transform you immediately. But transformation is a journey. As we pray, seek His help, and keep trying, we become more like Him, reflecting His love in every interaction. And in each moment of struggle, we can remember: His mercies are new every morning.

Lord, thank You for Your unending mercy. Guide me through this day, especially in moments when I stumble. Help me remember that Your love never fails and that Your mercies are new every morning. Teach me to rely on You for strength, and let Your light shine through my life. I praise You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:
  • In which areas do I need to rely on the Holy Spirit rather than my own strength?
  • How can I extend grace to myself as God extends His to me, remembering that His mercies are new every morning?
