God Will Never Fail

God Will Never Fail

I sang this song in church today:  “I trust in God, my Savior The one who will never fail He will never fail.”

And I thought, “What exactly does ‘God will never fail’ mean? How do we know?” Because, if I am being honest, sometimes, when life gets tough, it feels like maybe it isn’t true.

Sometimes, we pray and pray and pray some more, but our circumstances don’t change. At other times, it feels like we are waiting, oh, so long for a dream to become reality, for a prayer to be answered, for a friend to be healed, or for a loved one to turn and follow Jesus. Thus, I’ve sometimes wondered if my prayer request wasn’t part of God’s perfect plan. And then I feel guilty, because I know my faith is wavering and I am not trusting God.  Perhaps you’ve been there, too.

What Does “God Will Never Fail” Mean?

“God will never fail” means God’s nature, presence, love, and word are reliable forever. God will always be with us and never abandon His children. “The Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV).

God Never Changes

Even though our world is chaotic and constantly changing, God remains constant and unchanging. In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end” (Psalm 102:25-27, NIV).

God is Sovereign

People have free will and make their own decisions. Sometimes, they even roll dice to decide. But God controls the outcome. “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord” (Proverbs 16:33, NIV).

God is Good

We live in a world influenced by the enemy’s evil and lies. Thus, humans are prone to sin. But God is always good! “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8, NIV).

God is Faithful

As my story demonstrates, sometimes, our faith flails and fails. But God is always faithful. “If we are faithless, he remains faithful” (2 Timothy 2:13, NIV).

God is Merciful

In the Bible, God is described as a God of justice. However, God is righteous, fair, compassionate, and merciful in His justice because God knows we, being human, make mistakes. Mercy means withholding deserved punishment. Thus, in His mercy, rather than punishing us with the death our sins warrant, God sent Jesus to pay the penalty for them. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV).

God is Love

God is the very definition of love. The Bible uses the word agape to describe God’s love. Agape love is unconditional, selfless, and sacrificial. God loves us so much that He sacrificed His own son to give us eternal life in relationship with Him. “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (1 John 4:16, NIV).

God is Truth

The world is famous for saying things like, “Be true to yourself,” “Follow your heart,” and “Make your own truth.” However, the Bible tells us that God and His Word are the ultimate sources of truth. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6, NIV).

How Do We Know God Will Never Fail?

We know God will never fail because...

We know God will never fail because God does not lie (Numbers 23:19). God’s Word, the Bible, is true (Psalm 119:160), and God keeps His promises (Psalm 145:13).

Proof In The Bible

God promised Abraham and Sarah that their descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky. But because Sarah was old, they tried to make this happen by having Abraham father a child with the maid, Hagar. Despite the mess they created, God kept His promise. (Genesis 21:2-3) and Genesis 22:16).

Later, God released his people, the Israelites, from the oppression of slavery in Egypt. God even parted the Red Sea so they could escape. Then God remained in their midst, guiding them and supplying their food for 40 years. But they were hard-hearted and kept forgetting who God was and what He’d done for them. They even began to worship idols and feared entering the promised land.

But despite all this, “the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” (Joshua 21:43-45, NIV).

Proof In Your Past

Seeing and feeling God at work or understanding His plan during difficult times can be challenging. Like the Israelites, we sometimes forget God’s goodness. But looking in our rearview mirror reminds us that God was always there, walking right beside us.

So, dear one, let’s remember to reflect on past times when God brought good out of the worst situations. We can record these in a journal and stand on them now and in the future. Seeing how God has always shown up builds our faith, so we know God will never fail.

How to Apply Our Understanding That God Will Never Fail

Go to God

We easily shy away from God when we harbor doubts and fears. I know I did when I realized I wasn’t trusting God to answer my prayers. I felt ashamed and wanted to hide from Him. But hiding from Him is the last thing God wants us to do, yet it is precisely what the enemy wants.

God wants us to come to him at all times. He already knows our thoughts and feelings anyway.  He would rather have us run to Him and open our hearts than run away. We can be honest and share all our thoughts, feelings, anxieties, and fears with Him. When we open our whole hearts to God, He can reveal the reason behind our feelings and help us grow, heal, and transform.

Surrender Everything In Prayer

God loves us perfectly

God loves us perfectly, even when our faith isn’t perfect. When we humbly seek God in prayer, He reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV). We can ask God to strengthen our faith and help us trust Him.

Finally, we can surrender everything—our expectations, will, way, and timeline—to His capable hands. Then, we can praise Him for who He is, what He’s already done, and what He will do.

King David provided us with numerous examples of raw, honest prayers when his own faith was wavering. Here is just one: “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? . . . But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me” (Psalm 13:1-2 and 5-6, NIV).

Focus on Jesus Instead of the Storm

Life is like a race. If a runner turns and looks at her opponents, she will fall behind. But if she keeps her eyes forward, on the prize, she will do better. In the race of life, we win by focusing on Jesus rather than our circumstances. Thus, the Bible reminds us to throw off everything that hinders, and run the race with perseverance, fixing our eyes on Jesus so we will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:1-3).

Peter taught us a great lesson when he tried to walk on water. With Jesus’ encouragement, he did it. But he sank the second he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the storm around him (Matthew 14:28-33). So, let’s focus on Jesus rather than our difficulties. He will give us peace. “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3, ESV).

Focus on God’s Ultimate Victory

While our earthly struggles may seem overwhelming, the ultimate outcome is assured, as God’s plan will ultimately triumph. We have victory through Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:57). Our victory over sin, death, and the power of evil is God’s gift, made possible through Jesus’s death and resurrection. Therefore, even amid troublesome times, we can look forward to infinite, tearless time. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4, NLT).

Knowing God Will Never Fail Provides Comfort and Hope

God will never fail. He wins every time.

Friend, I am not promising life will always be easy or our prayers will be answered the moment we lift them to God. However, knowing that God never fails can bring us comfort and hope. It assures us that God will always be with us, guiding and helping us. When we know God wins every time, we can surrender our difficulties to God, knowing victory is assured. “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world” (1 John 4:4, NLT).

HUG – Held Until God Moves

Why are hugs so magical? Sometimes, all we need is a hug to melt away all our stress, make us feel safe, calm the storms raging in our minds, and reassure us everything will be okay. When life gets tough, we need a warm embrace—not words, not advice, just a hug to make us feel better. Why? Hugs let us know we matter and are loved.

Psalm 34: A Song of Praise And Promise

Have you ever messed up and felt unforgivable? Sadly, I have. When my daughter was twelve, I walked into the house with my arms full of groceries and tripped over her backpack, nearly falling. Rather than simply asking her to put it away, I lost my temper and barked at her about being more respectful. As the words flew from my mouth, I noticed the new friend she’d invited over and the look of horror on her face, and I was reminded of David when he wrote Psalm 34.

Whenever I’ve made mistakes, I’ve felt unworthy of God’s love and wanted to run from Him due to my shame. But when I read Psalm 34, I find genuine encouragement because it demonstrates God’s grace. It shows God is with us, helping, healing, and delivering us even when we are at our worst. All that is needed is a humble, repentant heart seeking God.

How to Keep It Simple When Life Is Complicated

I used to know a guy who always talked aloud to himself, saying, “Keep It Simple, Stupid.”  I would politely giggle and chide him for putting himself down. But sometimes I wonder if perhaps he wasn’t onto something. After all,…

God’s Plan vs. Our Expectations: Finding Peace in His Purpose

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “When am I going to get it together?” I know I have. But the older I get, the more I realize—it’s not really about my plan. It’s about God’s plan.
What does it truly mean to have your life “together”? Is it finding love, building a family, achieving success, being a good parent, or faithfully following God’s calling?
The world may say there’s a timeline for everything. Yet studies suggest most people don’t feel like they have it all figured out until around age 60. The truth is, there’s no magical age or switch that makes everything fall into place. Some people seem to follow a straight path from early on, while others don’t discover their direction until they’ve lived through a few twists and turns. And yet, through it all, God’s plan continues to unfold — patiently, purposefully, and perfectly.

Six Ways to Find Peace in the Storm

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought that once I became a Christian, my life would be easy and trouble-free. After all, the Bible promises us peace. However, it never portrays the Christian life as a bed of roses. After all, even roses have thorns. Biblical peace does not mean the absence of problems. However, peace can be found in the presence of God. Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV  emphasis added). We can find peace in the storm and become overcomers when we rely on Jesus.
