HUG – Held Until God Moves

all you need is a hug

Why are hugs so magical? Sometimes, all we need is a hug to melt away all our stress, make us feel safe, calm the storms raging in our minds, and reassure us that everything will be okay. When life gets tough, we need a warm embrace—not words, not advice, just a hug to make us feel better. Why? Hugs let us know we matter and are loved.

HUG: H -Held

Hug Held

Even when the storms of life are raging all around us, we are held and comforted by God. “He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love . . . His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me!” (Song of Solomon 2: 6,8,  ESV).

God holds us in his arms because He loves us. He loves us when we walk through good times and bad. He loves us when we behave well or poorly. In fact, God loves us so much He sent Jesus to save us despite our sins. “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:  4-5, NIV).

Held Because of His Love

God is our Father. His love for us is patient, kind, and unconditional. It reminds me a bit of my love for my grandson. Today, he crawled and climbed everywhere, requiring 100% of my time and energy. When it was time to sleep, I offered him a bottle. But he pushed it away, arched his little back, and fought sleep with all his being. Then, as I started humming, he placed his tiny head on my shoulder, snuggled in, and was instantly asleep. As I looked down at his tiny frame, my love for him overwhelmed me. And this, my friend, is just a glimpse of how God loves us.

God’s love for us is so great that nothing can ever separate us from it. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39, NKJV). So, when we feel overwhelmed by life, all we need to do is reach out to God. He will envelop us in his arms of comfort.

HUG: U-Until

Have you ever felt like you were in a waiting season? We spend our lives waiting for so many things, We wait until:

  • God sends us a spouse
  • We find the perfect job
  • We own our first home,
  • God blesses us with a baby
  • A difficult season passes
  • Our situation changes
  • Healing occurs
  • God transforms us
  • God answers our prayers

However, we are not waiting alone. God promises to hold and give us strength and protection while waiting. “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV). Can you imagine that kind of magnificent hug?

The Hebrew word for “wait” in this verse is “qavah.” It means to hope, anticipate, and trust. So, when we wait and pray, we can eagerly expect God to act on our behalf. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24, ESV).

HUG: G-God Moves

Hug: God Moves

When we patiently pursue God, He gives us more than a hug. He provides what we need. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, ESV). When you prioritize prayer, God will move. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act” (Psalm 37:5, ESV). Even when it feels like life is beating you down, and you have waived for a long time, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8, ESV).

Final Thoughts

So, friend, never forget, no matter what you are going through, God has you in His loving arms. He looks down at you with love and hugs you close to his heart. “His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you. You can run under his covering of majesty and hide. His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm” (Psalm 91:4, TPT).

We can find comfort in God because He is our ultimate source of help. So let’s proudly proclaim, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber” (Psalm 121:1-3, NIV).

Finally, Since God comforts us, let’s remember to extend God’s love, compassion, and hugs to others because He is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV).

    God Will Never Fail

What exactly does ‘God will never fail’ mean? How do we know?” Because, if I am being honest, sometimes, when life gets tough, it feels like maybe it isn’t true.

Sometimes, we pray and pray and pray some more, but our circumstances don’t change. Sometimes, it feels like we are waiting, oh, so long for a dream to become reality, a prayer to be answered, a friend to be healed, or a loved one to turn and follow Jesus. Sometimes, I wonder if maybe it’s just not part of God’s perfect plan. And then I feel guilty, because I know, my faith is wavering and I am not trusting God.  Perhaps you’ve been there, too.

Combatting the Fight-or-Flight Response With The Armor of God

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do I do the things I don’t want to do? Unfortunately, for me, it had become a recurrent question. You see, I’d been a Christian for years, decades even. Yet when faced with conflict, I always had a Fight-or-Flight response. I got angry, verbally defended myself, or ran away from the situation or relationship.

    Try, Try Again

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” This is advice we should all heed. Or should we? There was a point in my life when I thought if I just tried harder, I would stop letting God down. I knew that He forgave me when I sought forgiveness. But I was convinced that because I kept making the same mistakes again and again, I was a huge disappointment to God.

Being Patient is Hard But Worth It

When I was growing up, my mom frequently reminded me, “Patience is a virtue.” I am pretty sure she told me this so often because, well…I am not very patient. Maybe you can relate?

I read a funny social media post that said, “Most husbands know that when their wives ask them to do something when they get time, they may as well get up because she means ‘do it right now.’” Yeah, I am that impatient wife. Once, I asked my husband to sell his old car. He knew I would be impatient and immediately looked up the value online. But much to my annoyance, it sat in the driveway for the next 3 months. Finally, when my patience ran thin, I demanded he get it out of our driveway. So, he took to the dealer. However, when he came home, he had a big, satisfied grin on his face. He held up the check and said, ‘I guess it pays to be patient. The value went up $3,000 over the last few months. “

    Don’t Miss the Miracle

Don’t miss the miracle because it doesn’t look like you thought it would. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on a donkey. Not a horse, like a king…a donkey.  The Jews expected Jesus to come as a king who would rule, reign, and defeat Roman rule over their lives. But he was a different kind of king. They missed the miracle of Easter and salvation because they refused to see beyond their expectations of what the Messiah should be.

    The Truth About Trials

t’s easy to imagine that when we become a Christian, our world will become perfect. Or as Katie says in the Dr. Seuss movie Horton Hears a Who, “In my world, everyone’s a pony. And they all eat rainbow’s and poop butterflies.” But unfortunately, this is not the case. Accepting Jesus as our savior means we will one day live with Him for all of eternity, where there is no more pain or tears.

But until we die and go to heaven, we live on Earth, Earth hasn’t been a perfect place since Adam and Eve ate fruit from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden. Now, sin and death reign over the Earth. “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12, NIV).
