“Not all wounds bleed. Some come in the form of words spoken long ago, planted like seeds that took root in our hearts, growing into insecurity, fear, or shame.
Dear one, if you’ve ever carried the weight of painful words spoken over you, take heart. There is good news. God’s Word reminds us that those seeds do not have to define who we are. Through His truth, we can uproot them and plant new seeds of hope, courage, and love.
I do it all the time. Maybe you do, too. I speak negative words about myself. Sometimes, I make a joke: “Oops, I did it again! I am so clumsy!” Sometimes, I grumble in frustration: “I’m so scatterbrained. I must be having a senior moment.” But sometimes, I am just not kind to myself: “I’m so fat, ugly, stupid…”
But, dear one, our words have power.
So, how do we know when to be silent or speak? I believe the answer is to pause. Pausing keeps us from rushing in with a reprimand and enables us to be helpful rather than hurtful. It allows us to choose our words carefully and reveal God’s truth.
