Do Everything In Love

Do Everything In Love

“Do everything in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14, NIV)

When I read this verse in my quiet time, “Do everything in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14, NIV),  I thought, “Ah, so Jesus wasn’t the only one instructing us to love.” But then the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “No, this is subtly different.”

I paused to reflect and realized it was true. Jesus said, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself”  (Matthew 22:39, NIV). However, in his letter to the Corinthians, Paul was instructing believers to do everything from a place of love. That means whatever we do, we do it because we love the Lord and others.

I wondered how my day would look different if I  did everything with a heart full of love.

  • Upon hearing the alarm clock, I wouldn’t groan. Instead, I would thank God for another day and another chance to share God’s Word with those I encounter.
  • My quiet time with the Lord wouldn’t be about checking boxes: read two chapters of scripture, pray, and journal. It would become a time to rest in God’s peace and presence.
  • When someone cuts me off in traffic, rather than grumbling about how rude they are, I would lovingly yield and consider their safety.
  • If a difficult student tells me they don’t want to do any schoolwork, I would hug them and gently say, “I understand,” instead of getting frustrated. Then I would gently coax them into learning.
  • And when I stare at a blank screen, unsure what to write, I would pause to pray and ask God what He needs His children to hear.

As I pondered this, I heard that still small voice again saying, “You can’t give away what you don’t have.” God was reminding me that to do everything in love, I must first go to the Source of love—the Lord Himself.

Picture it like this: You’re pouring the last of the coffee into your cup. As you set the pot down, you see a loved one walk into the kitchen with an empty cup. You want to share, but when you look down, you realize yours is only partially full. There just isn’t enough to share.

Friend, connecting with God fills our cups. He restores, renews, and refills our weary souls with His love so we have enough to give away.

Here are a few ways to connect with God and refill your cup.

  • Pray throughout the day — speak and listen for His still, small voice.
  • Meditate on God’s Word — let His truth anchor you.
  • Write what God places on your heart — store His words in your heart until they’re needed.
  • Worship — let praise lift your eyes above the noise.
  • Step outside — God’s creation whispers peace.
  • Laugh and play — joy is a gift from your loving Father.

Dear one, Jesus meets us in our dry and weary places. He gently restores what has been poured out, renews us when we’re tired, and fills us with His peace and love. As we linger in God’s presence, He refills our empty cup. When God’s love fills us to the brim, it naturally spills over onto our families, friends, coworkers, and even the strangers we meet. Then we can reflect it in every word, thought, and action, and truly do everything in love.

Dear Lord, Thank You for meeting me in my dry and weary places. Fill my heart with Your love, renew my spirit, and guide my thoughts, words, and actions today. Help me to reflect it in every interaction, big or small, and to serve others with a gentle and joyful heart. Teach me to rely on You first, so that everything I do flows from Your love. May my life be a reflection of Your grace, and may others see You through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
